Is a GLP-1 worth discussing for you?
Ten questions to organise your own thinking before you sit down with a prescriber. This is not a medical test and it cannot tell you what to do. It can stop you walking into that appointment with nothing but a feeling.
Your answers never leave your device
Everything here is scored in your browser. Nothing you tick is sent anywhere, stored anywhere, or seen by anyone, including me. Close the page and it is gone. There is an optional email sign-up at the bottom, and it collects your email address and nothing else.
If you would rather not take my word for it, the scoring code is at assets/glp1-quiz.js and you are welcome to read it.
Before you score anything
Some histories change this conversation completely, and no quiz can weigh them properly. If any of the following apply to you, they belong at the front of your discussion with a prescriber rather than buried in a total at the bottom of a page:
- A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, or of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2
- A history of pancreatitis
- Gallbladder disease
- Significant gastrointestinal disease, including gastroparesis
- A history of disordered eating, at any point in your life
- Pregnancy, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding
None of these is a reason you cannot be helped. They are reasons the conversation starts somewhere other than where this page starts. Please raise them first.
How this works
Answer all ten questions and you will get two scores rather than one, because they answer two different questions.
The first is about whether this question is live for you, given your health, what you have already tried and what it did. The second is about whether it would hold up in your actual life, given cost, muscle protection and whether you have a prescriber to partner with.
Keeping them apart matters. Whether a medication suits your body and whether you could sustain it are separate questions, and adding them into one number hides both.
The bands have no clinical validation behind their cutoffs. They are a way to organise your thinking, nothing more.
Your two scores
Whatever you decide, one thing holds
Roughly a quarter of the weight lost on these medications is lean mass, and for a woman in midlife that matters more than the number on the scale. Protein and resistance training are what decide whether you come out the other side lighter and strong, or simply smaller. That is true whether you take a medication or never do.
Read what the trials found about GLP-1 drugs and muscle.
These bands have no clinical validation behind their cutoffs. They organise your thinking. They do not diagnose you, they cannot account for your history, and they are not a recommendation to start or avoid any medication.
Want the questions to take with you?
The free GLP-1 Support Kit turns this into something you can use in the room: what to ask a prescriber, how to protect muscle whichever way you go, and how to read what you are told afterwards.
This form sends your email address and nothing else. Your quiz answers are not attached to it and never leave your browser.
What this page is, and what it is not
I am a Doctor of Natural Medicine. I do not prescribe, and I cannot tell you whether a GLP-1 medication belongs in your body. That decision sits with you and a qualified prescriber who knows your history, your family history, your cardiovascular and clotting risk, and everything this page cannot see.
This is a reflection exercise adapted from my forthcoming book Your Body's Own GLP-1. It is education, not medical advice, not diagnosis, and not a recommendation in either direction. Nothing here is a reason to start a medication, and nothing here is a reason to stop one you have been prescribed.
